Position Title: Operations Manager - Rotational

Business Unit: Trinidad Drilling International

Location: Kuwait

Reports to: VP Operations

Position Summary:

The Operations Manager is an integral member of the International Operations management team, working rotationally with the Country Manager. The Operations Manager will play a key leadership role in the execution of drilling operations and contract delivery. With a team of Field Superintendents and others reporting to you, the role will balance technical expertise with contract management. The Operations Manager will ensure the successful delivery of contractually agreed outcomes while adhering to the highest of safety standards in drilling practices.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Develop, administer and control annual operation budgets

  • Control cost of operations by frequent cost analysis. Determine means of improving efficiency and reducing costs where possible

  • Initiate controls to ensure all required operational and accounting reports are received by the regional office

  • Ensure sure that spares and consumables usage is kept under reasonable control without affecting the efficiency of the operations or the quality of the maintenance

QHSE Responsibilities:

  • Lead effective safety leadership by being personal responsible for administration and Implementation of the TDI GMS

  • Ensure a safe working environment without harm to persons or environment

  • Address HSE issues at the time of their identification. and ensure timely and accurate communication of events to line management

  • Ensure that Client and company’s commitment to safety reaches all levels of the operation

  • Be actively involved in pursuit of being "The World’s Safest Drilling Company"

  • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies by all personnel

  • Promote HSE Tools and Programs and ensure they are well followed by the crews

  • Ensure Waste Management Plan is adhered to

Operations:

  • Give technical advises on operation or find support and information whenever required or deemed necessary by operations or client

  • Ensure well programs and schedules are well known and adequate written instruction is given

  • Manage and oversee the utilization of resources across the country, equipment and personnel, to minimize NPT

  • Oversee and direct rig moves

  • Ensure the Company’s Preventative Maintenance program is utilized routinely at a high standard.

People Management:

  • Maintain regular contact with operations staff by personally visiting rigs / yards

  • To take responsibility for overall staff to ensure a motivated disciplined and productive workforce, especially to be a good listener and reserve time to give feedback

  • Appraise each direct report annually on a constant rolling feedback basis. Drive appraisal process throughout the unit to formalize performance management

  • Monitor key safety, financial, business process improvement and personal objectives for each direct report

  • Encourage personal development for succession planning through the organization

  • Supervise all personnel to ensure a safe and professional level of performance and ensure that the team stays current with changes in industry technology

  • Ensure that training programs are maintained in line with training matrix

  • Recommend competency based promotions, salary changes, transfers, disciplinary measures where identified

  • Encourage and support employees for personal development to take over of responsibility for their tasks

  • Take immediate action on performance improvement issues and live a direct response culture (positive and negative) to the employee, secure a prompt feedback

  • Organize country operations by delegating authority and responsibility to the proper level of supervision

Business Planning / Continuous Improvement / Organization Efficiency:

  • Ensure all work is performed within the requirements and guidance of the company GMS process

  • Ensure adequate logistic of the company personnel, material and equipment and anticipate/correct any problem

  • Agree with Management, initiate and monitor all major maintenance and repair work in collaboration with Maintenance Department

  • Ensure fast and detailed reporting in writing of any problems occurring on the operation

  • Maintain contact with competition in zone to monitor business activities and performance levels

  • Create and modify any procedure if deemed necessary with use of Deviation from Policy procedure and/or in corporation with support function and final Head office approval

  • Instigate, drive and take ultimate responsibility for continuous improvement initiatives to ensure that the internal process within the organization meet business needs

  • Support preparation of bid proposals for work as requested by customers

  • Stay current with changes in local laws or customs, which materially affect the company’s business. Maintain relation with government offices

  • Supporting, promoting and actively participating in the Company’s T.E.S.T (Trinidad Essential Skills Training) process

Customer / Public Relations :

  • Develop and maintain effective customer relationships

  • Keep good communications with the client representatives and make sure misunderstanding or bad communication does not develop within the workforce

  • Keep the client informed of the rig progress and any operational problem though regular meetings and/or written reporting agreed with client.

  • Serve as a champion for the "Trinidad Brand" both inside and outside the organization.

  • Any other delegated responsibilities as instructed by Line Management within the timeframe specified in a safe and efficient manner to meet business requirements, provided the instruction is reasonable and you are capable and deemed competent to fulfill these.

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 10 years of Drilling management experience, preferably in land based drilling operations

  • Excellent understanding of rig systems and technology including nonconventional drilling

  • An in depth knowledge of the energy industry specifically including new and emerging trends is essential

  • Able to maintain a high level of communication with other members of the management team

  • Well-developed time management and organizational skills

  • Demonstration of flexibility, innovation and professionalism

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
